Samford Valley Rotaract Club
sponsored by the Rotary Club of Samford Valley
Rotaract is a
worldwide, Rotary sponsored, organisation for 18 to 30 year old adults. It is
non-denominational and apolitical. Rotaract (ROTARy ACTion) was adopted as a
worldwide program of Rotary in 1968, when the Rotary International Board of
Directors saw a need to extend the opportunity of service to young adults. Since
1978, "Fellowship Through Service" has been the official Rotaract motto.
The activities of Rotaract clubs are determined, in
part, by the fact that these young people are finding their way in the adult
world and are eager to put their own ideas to work and receive community
recognition for their contributions. For this reason, sponsoring Rotary clubs
encourage Rotaractors to act with a large measure of independence in choosing
and carrying out projects.
When it was suggested to the Rotary Club of Samford
Valley to sponsor a local Rotaract Club, the challenge to some seemed
overwhelming and a little daunting. But, on the 8th June, 1998, after a few
months as a provisional club under the watchful eyes, nurturing and guiding of
Rotarians, the Samford Valley Rotaract Club was officially recognised at a
ceremonial dinner.

The Rotaract Club has evolved into a fun,
enthusiastic and productive group of young people. Rotarians who visit the
club's meetings are generally exhausted by the exuberence and motivation of the
Rotaractors and also impressed by their commitment to community service,
international understanding, professional and personal development, and
friendship - essential objectives of Rotaract.

Rotaract provides an opportunity for young adults,
single or married to meet people their own age and enjoy an active social life,
not only in Samford but with other district Rotaract club members.
Apart from assisting the Rotary Club with its
various community endeavours, members of the Rotaract Club have involved
themselves in other Rotary District programs, such as "Donation In Kind", a
program where unwanted medical supplies and equipment, books, paper and on one
occasion, a motor vehicle is collected, sorted, packed and shipped to Papua New
Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Car rallies, ten pin bowling, raft races, shooting,
canoeing are some of the social activities the Samford Rotaractors have
organised.
